Berry Love!

I like berries. I love berries even more when they are in a gluten-free healthy(ish) crisp, and I absolutely ADORE berries in a crisp that is topped with vanilla frozen yogurt!

No matter which way you choose to have your favorite treat remember that food should be enjoyed, and not cause anxiety or feelings of guilt. There is absolutely no reason that you should feel bad about really enjoying a delicious, healthy(ish) treat. When you do eat treats please don’t think about how you “will burn this off” while eating it.

After all, weight loss and being healthy isn’t about the food as much as it is about your mindset and behaviors.

Blueberry & Raspberry Healthy(ish) Crisp – serves 12 / prep time: 10 minutes / bake time: 45 minutes


3 cups fresh blueberries 2 cups fresh raspberries 1/2 cup maple syrup or honey 3 tablespoons cornstarch 2 tablespoons lemon juice ¼ teaspoon cinnamon

Gluten-free oat topping

1 cup old-fashioned oats (certified gluten-free for a gluten-free crisp) ½ cup almond flour ⅓ cup brown sugar 6 tablespoons butter, melted


Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Rinse and drain the blueberries and pick through them to remove any stems still attached.

In a 9 by 9-inch baking dish, mix together the blueberries, raspberries, maple syrup or honey, cornstarch, lemon juice, and cinnamon.

In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the oats, almond flour, and brown sugar. Mix in the butter. Stir together and then dollop spoonful’s of the oat mixture over the filling and use your fingers to break up the mixture until it is evenly distributed (no need to pack it down).

Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the filling is actively bubbling around the edges or until you start to drool.

Let the crisp rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
